There is a guy in the Bible named John aka the “apostle of love” that writes of a story that takes place at the pool of Bethesda which means “house of mercy” in Hebrew. (John 5:1-5) There were disabled people like the blind, the lame, the paralyzed that would hang out poolside. The people believed that an angel would occasionally come and stir up the water and when this happens, the first one in the pool would be healed from their sickness.
There was a man that the Bible says was there that had been lame for 38 years. Jesus singled out this man who commentators say wasn’t at the edge of the pool but more toward the back. There was too much competition to get to the front especially with his condition. Jesus said to him, “do you want to be well?” The man told Jesus that every time he tried to get up, someone else would get there first. Jesus commanded him to “Rise! Take up thy bed and walk!” Immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked.
The picture is perfect. You have a guy who is lame and realizes it. He is giving his best effort to better himself to the best of his ability. He believes if he can just get in that pool he will be made whole. But after many attempts he starts feeling like it will never happen. Then Jesus enters the picture and simply asks him if he wants to be well and told him to get up and walk.
Feeling lame? Competition got you feeling like you’re behind in life? Go to the to the “house of mercy”. Jesus will meet you there and make you whole.
Live life in the pocket, the sweet spot, in Christ Jesus.
